Visit your GP to discuss natural medicine as a treatment option.
(1) SAS-B Pathway

If your GP determines that natural medicine is a suitable treatment option for you, they will submit an application to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) through the Special Access Scheme (SAS-B) to obtain permission to prescribe it. This application will outline the reasons for recommending natural medicine and the planned approach for monitoring your treatment progress. Typically, the TGA approves SAS-B requests within two business days. Once approved, your GP will develop a personalised treatment plan and prescription, and discuss options for filling your prescription with you.

(2) Specialist Natural Medicine or Clinic Pathway

If your GP thinks natural medicine might be a good option for you, they’ll refer you to a specialist doctor or clinic with expertise in natural medicine. Your GP will share your medical history and relevant information with the specialist, who will then discuss your condition and medical history with you to determine if medicinal cannabis is a suitable treatment. If the specialist is an Authorised Prescriber, they can prescribe natural medicine for you on the spot. Otherwise, they’ll need to apply for SAS-B approval, which usually takes around two business days. Once approved, the specialist will create a personalised treatment plan and prescription, and discuss options for filling your prescription with you.

Contact your pharmacy to inquire about your prescription and discuss your options for filling it.
Please note that pharmacies typically don't keep natural medicine in stock, so it's best to call ahead and place an order for your medication. This way, your pharmacy can ensure they have your prescription ready for you when you need it.
Start your treatment by carefully following the dosage instructions provided to you.
Before beginning treatment with natural medicine it's crucial to understand how to use it properly. Carefully read the Consumer Medical Information (CMI) and discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor or pharmacist. Adhere to the recommended dosage and titration guidelines, and don't hesitate to seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe or unexpected side effects.
